Night Hydration - Why it's so important.

Overall skin hydration is crucial for maintaining healthy life. Let’s dive into why it matters to keep your skin well-hydrated. The outermost layer of your skin, called the Epidermis, acts as a protective barrier against external threats, like the weather, environment, bacteria, germs, the sun, basically everything you come in contact with. Needless to say, it's a pretty important organ.

Your skin is more permeable when hydrated, which enhances overall skin health and elasticity. Drinking plenty of water is essential for skin hydration. Please bear in mind you can overhydrate yourself also. So you need to find that balance. Your skin contains approximately 30% water, so staying properly hydrated will improve your skins texture and appearance. Making your skin softer and smoother, contributing to a more youthful appearance.

You also need to understand the difference between moisturizing and hydration. Hydration adds water directly to the skin and Moisturizing helps you to retain it. It takes both.

So, we covered that we all need to drink the proper amount of water, but what else can be done to help our skin? Using a hydration cream at bedtime is a smart move for your skin. Let me break down the reasons why:

  1. Skin Repair and Regeneration: While you sleep, your skin enters a reparative phase. During this time, it works hard to repair any damage caused during the day. Applying a nighttime hydration cream provides essential nutrients and moisture to support this natural process. When your skin is well-hydrated, it can better repair itself, leaving you with soft and supple skin when you wake up.
  2. Better Absorption: At night, there are no environmental stressors like pollution or sun exposure. Without makeup, your skin can breathe, and products can penetrate more effectively. A good hydration cream ensures that your skin gets the nourishment it needs without any interference.
  3. Preventing Transepidermal Water Loss: As you sleep, your skin loses moisture through a process called transepidermal water loss. A hydrating cream acts as a barrier, preventing excessive moisture loss and helps keep your skin plump and hydrated.
  4. Targeted Treatments: If you have specific skin concerns, bedtime is an excellent time to apply targeted treatments. Whether it’s a serum for hyperpigmentation or a spot treatment for breakouts, your skin can absorb these active ingredients more effectively during the night.
  5. Relaxation and Self-Care: Applying a luxurious cream before bed can be a soothing ritual. The act of massaging the cream into your skin can help you relax and unwind, promoting better sleep overall.
  6. Anti-Aging: Well-moisturized skin tends to show fewer signs of aging. It keeps your skin more elastic and delays the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Remember, a well-hydrated skin barrier is essential for maintaining healthy, radiant skin. So, don’t skip that bedtime hydration!
