Why We Left USPS For UPS

For years, Sugar Mountain Trading Co. relied on the United States Postal Service as our primary shipping partner. But lately, the USPS Louisville, KY Distribution Center has become a full-blown bottleneck — and not the cute kind you keep on a shelf. Packages have been sitting there for up to 10 days without moving, buried in a backlog so bad that full truckloads of unsorted mail are reportedly being shipped off to random distribution centers across the country just to let someone else figure it out. When our customers expect handcrafted quality and timely delivery, chaos like that simply isn’t an option.
What pushed us over the edge wasn’t just the delays — it was the response. After reaching out to USPS directly to ask what could be done, we were essentially told to “just deal with it.” That’s not exactly the energy you want from a service entrusted with your customers’ orders. We value tradition, consistency, and accountability… and the idea of shrugging off a 10-day sit-and-wait at a distribution center doesn’t exactly align with any of those.
So we made the call: all shipping is now moving to UPS. Yes, UPS costs a bit more. But they also deliver — reliably, professionally, and without sending your package on a nationwide sightseeing tour. Our customers deserve better than uncertainty, and we refuse to gamble with your experience. Until USPS resolves the breakdown in Louisville, UPS will be our standard. Your orders will arrive when they should, handled with the same care and intention we pour into every product we make.
Keep It Suddys My Friends.
